The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Lekan Owolabi before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of peace.
Owolabi, whose residential address is unknown, is being charged for breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to the Police Prosecutor Insp. Victor Eruada, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by unlawfully removing the roof of the house of one Mr Taiwo Ogunfadeke.
Eruada told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.15 at No.11 Adejumobi St., Oshodi, Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendant N100, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Tanimola ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the offence contravenes section 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
Breach of peace is punishable with six months’ jail term or a fine of N50, 000.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until April 6 for mention. (NAN)
