A 37-year-old man, Kunle Ewemode, on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N200,000 from a microfinance bank under false pretences.
The defendant, of no fixed address, was charged with obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in May 2021, at City Gage Microfinance bank, Ikotun, Lagos.
He said that the defendant obtained N200,000 from the bank with the promise of paying back the sum of N255,000.
The prosecutor explained that the defendant has refused to pay back the money and the acrued interest.
He said the offence contravened Sections 315 (1) (a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 14 for mention. (NAN)
