#TrackNigeria: The lawmaker representing Maru/Bungudu federal constituency in Zamfara, Alhaji Shehu Sarkin-Fulani has donated cash and tricycles to 114 women in the constituency to boost their economic status.
The lawmaker presented the donation in Gusau on Saturday, through his NGO, Fulbe Care Initiative.
Sarkin-Fulani said the gesture was aimed at complementing the state and federal government’s efforts in tackling poverty and unemployment.
“This is in line with the manifesto of our great party, the PDP. During my campaigns, l promised to carry women along, so this is some of my blueprints to empower women”, he said.
The lawmaker said he was targeting to empower 5,000 rural women in the constituency, which comprises Maru and Bungudu local government areas.
“Apart from this agriculture and empowerment support project for women, I also plan free maternal healthcare programme for pregnant women under my healthcare project.
“I will soon start free-interest loans and security awareness campaigns projects, to ensure the the dividends of democracy reach our people at grassroots”, he said.
Earlier, the Director of Programmes, Fulbe Care Initiatives, Musa Umar said the 114 beneficiaries were selected from 10 wards in Maru and 11 in Bungudu local government areas.
“Each of the 114 selected women would be supported with N20,000 to start up various businesses.
“We also have another set of 10 women among the beneficiaries who would be supported with a tricycle each.
“While another 10 women are to be supported with cash of N300,000 each as a support for agricultural businesses”, he said.
Umar said, “as we flag off this project today in Gusau, with 114 beneficiries as first batch, we are going to continue at Kwatarkwashi, Bungudu, Dansadau and Maru emirates”.
In her remark, the State PDP Women Leader, Hajiya Aisha Maradun, urged the beneficiaries to utilise what was given to them for the purpose it was meant.
“We thank the lawmaker for this gesture, we also appreciate him for considering women first.
“We should not spend this support on unnecessary things, let us use it to start businesses “, she urged the beneficiaries. (NAN)
