The Management of Kaduna Electric has appealed to religious leaders in its franchise area to ensure that all places of worship settle their bills regularly, warning that the Company shall soon embark on disconnection of all defaulters.

A statement by the Head, Corporate communications of the Company Abdulazeez Abdullahi stated that the call became imperative given the reluctance of some religious organisations and places of worship to pay their electricity bills.

He said that the Company has written to all religious leaders and organisations concerned in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States urging them to call their followers to order and ensure that they discharge their obligations to the electricity Company at when due or have their service disconnected.

According to one the letters seen by this reporter, the electricity company stressed it unflinchingly committed to providing steady and qualitative power supply to the customers and demanded that all electricity users must in turn discharge their own side of the contract.

“It is against the backdrop of this solemn commitment that we are constrained to write you this letter and appeal to your good self and your office to help us in mobilizing your subjects, especially religious organisations/places of worship (mosques and churches) to pay ALL their electricity bills. The present level of response to payment of electricity bills by places of worship, to say the least, is not encouraging. As a matter of fact, if this trend is not reversed for the better, the Company will be left with no option than to withdraw our services completely from the defaulting customers/communities/organisations/places of worship”, the letter stated.

AbdulAzeez Abdullahi stressed that the recent publication by NBET of the GENCOS invoices and DISCOs payment to NBET confirmed the position of the Company that all electricity users in the Company’s operational area must be alive to their responsibility if the Company is to meet its obligations to the market.
