A group under the aegis of Niger Delta Youth Vanguard, (NDYV) has lauded President Goodluck Jonathan on the appointment of former Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Sir Mike Okiro as chairman of Police Service Commission, (PSC) .Comrade Ehiogun Kenneth, NDYV national president made the remark while briefing newsmen in Warri, Friday saying the appointment was a step in the right direction towards combating the spate of insecurity in the country.
Comrade Ehiogun noted that, with the spate of insecurity in country, going by incessant activities of Boko-haram attacks in the north, the MASSOB insurgence in eastern Nigeria and youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region, the appointment of Okiro judging by experience and conduct, he can effectively repositioned the Nigerian Police Force in bracing up to her challenge of combating crime and ensuring national security, safety of lives and property of citizenry.
“We are not unaware of recent comments by all those raising issues on the appointment of Sir Mike Okiro as chairman of Police Service Commission. And this is not far from the truth that because he is from the Niger Delta region.”
“We wish to state categorically that beyond ethnic sentiment, Sir Mike Okiro is the right man for the job to head the Police Service Commission with his wealth of experience as former Inspector General of Police. And the current security challenges in Nigeria, the PSC need such headship so as to effectively reposition officers and men in ensuring national security”, Comrade Ehiogun stated.
