Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku has won the presidential primaries of Nigeria’s opposition Peoples Democratic Party,PDP held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
Atiku who will thus fly the PDP ticket in the 2019 presidential race will take on President Muhammadu Buhari in what is expected to be an interesting election.
The former vice president has made the restructuring of Nigeria a major campaign issue long before the primaries. He defected from the APC a few months ago to join the PDP presidential race.
Many observers are watching to see how former president Olusegun Obasanjo will react to this development. It is believed there is a strained relationship between Obasanjo and his former vice president Atiku.
Atiku defeated 11 other aspirants namely Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, ex Governor Ahmed Makarfi, Mallam Rabiu Kwankwaso among others to clinch the PDP ticket.
