Nigeria’s Acting President,Professor Yemi Osinbajo has finally signed the 2017 budget into law.
This development brings to an end the lingering speculations over who and when the budget will be signed since it was passed by the National Assembly.
The controversy was fueled by the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari who has been on medical vacation in London.
Earlier on Monday, Mallam Garba Shehu issued a statement which said President Muhammadu Buhari “backs” the acting President to sign the 2017 budget into law.
Also later in the day, Laolu Akande, the acting president’s spokesman confirmed via his twitter handle that “AgP Osinbajo signs 2017 budget into law-it’s ‘an important milestone in our eco recovery & growth plan laid in April by President Buhari.’”
It is hoped that the business of governance will continue with greater pace henceforth as officials had hitherto claimed that activities had been slowed down because the budget had not been signed.
