FCTA Conducts Integrity Test On 48 Abandoned Structures

Bala FCT MinisterThe FCT Administration has in the last one month carried out structural stability tests on 48 abandoned buildings in the Federal Capital Territory to ascertain their strength or otherwise.
The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON, made this disclosure on Monday during the enlarged Operations Briefing Session at Gwarinpa I District (Life-Camp), Abuja.
The Minister reiterated that one of the buildings on plot 3, Sabongida District however failed the integrity test and has therefore been demolished according to statutory Urban and Regional Planning regulations.
Senator Mohammed remarked that the FCT Administration through the Department of Development Control also removed two abandoned but failed structures in Apo Mechanic Workshop.
The Minister noted that efficiency municipal management has remarkably improved in the Federal Capital City but however expressed displeasure over poor sanitary condition in the Area Councils and called for immediate reversal by the Chairmen of the six Councils.
He warned that poor sanitary condition cannot be condoned at any level within the 8,000 square kilometres of the Federal Capital Territory by the Administration.
According to him, “we cannot fold our arms to watch the Area Councils abdicating one of their primary responsibilities of refuse collection and general cleanliness”.
On the Activities of the Ministerial Special Task Team on City Cleaning and Management, the Minister revealed that 636 hawkers/traders were arrested and 386 have so been convicted with 68 sentenced.
The Task Team has also arrested 166 beggars/destitute; 863 commercial motorcycles; 432 tricycles and 50 commercial sex workers since its flag-off on March 17, 2014.
