A cross section of residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed divergent views on the  nationwide protest tagged ‘EndbadgovernanceinNigeria’.

Some of the residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that they are in support of the protest in spite of the economic hardship.

While some said the protest was necessary to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the hardship that Nigerians were currently experiencing.

Mr Ojo Oluwaferanmi, a resident in Apo, said he strongly support the protest, adding that, it was the only  the way to get government’s attention.

“We have tried other means, but they don’t listen. This protest is our last resort. They’ll hear our voices this time,” he said.

Alice Alabi, a resident of Wuse, said the protest was a response to the current situation in the country.

”People are fed up and want to be heard. The government should listen instead of seeing the protest as a threat.

”The government has issued warnings against the protest, citing concerns about public safety and security.

” However, I am sure that the people organising the protest are resolute,” she said.

Zainab Muhammad, another resident in Apo, said she was skeptical about the protest’s effectiveness.

“I don’t think it’ll achieve anything. Leaders will still do what they want, regardless of our protests,” she said.

Akpoti Razaq, a resident in Garki, said though he supports the protests, he expressed fear that the protest would be high jacked by hoodlums.

”I support the protest but what I fear is the consequences. One thing is certain – the voices of Nigerians will be heard, one way or another,” he said.

However, Oloruntoba Erioluwa, said he  opposed the protest, adding that, he does not want a repeat of the EndSAR’s situation.

“We saw what happened during #EndSARS in 2020. Lives were lost, properties destroyed. I don’t want a repeat of that. It’s not worth the risk,” he said.

NAN reports that the Apo Estate of the FCT is peaceful while residents are seen in small groups discussing about the protest.(NAN)
