Youths in Edo State have been called upon to participate in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Telecom Young Innovators competition scheduled for Bangkok, Thailand from 19th to 22nd November 2013.
A Statement from the Ministry of Communication Technology, signed by Mrs. Moni Udoh, Deputy Director, e-Government disclosed that winners of the competition have the opportunity to win seed money of up to $5,000.00 in the concept category and $10,000.00 in the startup category.
“In view of the above, the Ministry has since uploaded the information and the link to the ITU World 2013 on its website to create awareness of the event to the target youth,” the statement noted.
….Organizes Writing Contest For Students
As part of the innovation for Edo’s Development, the state’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) department has organized a creative writing contest open to all students in both public and private Secondary Schools in the state as part of this year’s Edo Technology Day holding next month.
With the topic, “How to use Innovation and Technology to Transform Edo State’s Education,” the writing competition is organized by to set young people up for excellent results in tests and exams, foster real time useful learning and discursions as a lifelong habit and restore the glory of
Nigerian Education.
A statement by the organizers disclosed that the Innovation for Edo’s Development, IFD, strives to genuinely encourage and reward innovative ideas and efforts that focus on solutions to the challenges currently affecting Edo State’s Education System.
“The article must not just be a written piece but it must contain a solution that can be implemented within the next one year and to participate, the students are to send a 750 word article on the topic ,with name, date of birth, class, school, contact number of one of their parents and a contact of a teacher in your school by email to: info@passnownow.com
“The winners will be unveiled, presented with their prizes and decorated at the Edo Technology Day scheduled to hold in July 2013, by the Executive Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the presence of top government officials and stakeholders within the information technology and private sector.
“The first prize winner will go home with N500, 000 tuition fee contribution, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 inch tablet, live reading of article to the audience , publication of article on major newspapers and online media platforms across the country, the second prize will get N300, 000 tuition fee contribution, 15.7 inches Laptop Computer, live reading of article to the audience, publication of article on major newspapers and online media platforms across the country and the third prize, N100,000 tuition fee contribution, 11 inches Netbook computer, publication of article on major newspapers and online media platforms across the country,” it added.
