#TrackNigeria: A serving commissioner of information in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state, who is also Chairman of the Publicity Committee of the party’s Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, on Tuesday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Goronyo defected at the flag off of APC’s campaigns in Wamakko town, headquarters of Wamakko Local Government in the state.
“I am back into the fold of the APC. Senator Aliyu Wamakko is my able and dependable Father . He is a just, honest and a transparent leader. This day is very historic for me, my family and all my political associates. I have admitted making mistakes but I should be forgiven.
“I hereby promise to work assiduously to ensure the success of the candidates of the party , at all levels during the forthcoming general polls,” he said.
Goronyo said that President Muhammadu Buhari had made giant strides in moving Nigeria forward. This is just like Senator Wamakko did between 2007 and 2015 when he was the Governor of Sokoto State.
Wamakko welcomed Goronyo back to the APC described him as a true and loyal son adding, “I am sincerely elated with this happy development.”
The APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto also lauded Goronyo for the action, saying, “he defected to the party with no strings attached.”
Highlight of the ceremony was earlier defection of 7,400 members of the PDP to the APC, from Wamakko local government.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Tambuwal has announced the sack of Goronyo following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Disclosing this in a statement, the Director-General, Media and Public Relations, Malam Abubakar Shekara said:
“Governor Aminu Tambuwal has relieved Barrister Bello Goronyo of his appointment as Commissioner for Information with immediate effect. The Permanent Secretary has been directed to take over the affairs of the Ministry immediately,” Shekara said.
Shekara explained that Tambuwal’s decision was based on alleged sabotage of government’s laudable programmes and activities by Goronyo.
