The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of seven soldiers in combat with Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to overrun a military base in Borno State.
The attack by the terrorists group was subsequently foiled by troops of 157 Battalion in Kangarwa community.
The disclosure was contained in a statement, Wednesday, published on army’s official Facebook page.
According to the statement, 76 members of the jihadists group were killed during a fierce gun battle with the troops. 16 soldiers sustained various degree of gunshot wounds.
“Gallant troops of 157 Battalion decisively engaged BHTs who attempted to overrun their Position near Kangarwa in Borno State.
The sustained superior firepower of the troops led to the neutralization of 76 BHTs. Unfortunately, the NA lost 7 soldiers while 16 were wounded in action”, army said.
The added that, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has commiserated with the families of the deceased and directed that the wounded be given adequate medical attention.
