Reports reaching Newsdiaryonline Sunday morning said heavy fight has broken out in Maidugu ri.Initially sounds of gun shots were heard in outside the capital of Maiduguri.But fighting has been heard inside the city,
“ I was speaking with my relative in one of the schools in Maiduguri there and she said fighting was outside the town.
“But now there are gunshots inside the town.As we spoke again, I could hear the booming sound of gunfire”, a Nigerian whose relative is among the millions of people in Maiduguri said.
Other reports said Boko Haram attempted to enter Maiduguri through at least two different points and the military has been fighting to repel the terrorists.
Newsdiaryonline also learned that the heavy gunfire was as a result of the stiff resistance put up by the military and civilian JTF who pushed the terrorists back. “The military and the civilian JTF are winning the war” ,a source claimed.
It was not immediately clear whether the Boko Haram insurgents had reached inside Maiduguri city before they were pushed back or not.
Last week, the military repelled the terrorists from Maiduguri,Monguno and Konduga.
