The National Information Centre (NIC) has confirmed that one of the suspected attackers in Wednesday’s bomb explosion that occurred between Bannex and Emab Plazas in Wuse 11, Abuja has been arrested while a second suspect was killed by soldiers.
The Coordinator of the Centre, Mike Omeri said the dead suspect was killed by soldiers as he tried to escape on a power bike.
According to him, residents of the FCT are advised to remain calm, avoid the location of the explosion and go about their normal businesses. He also said that security agencies have been fully mobilized to the scene of the incident and are handling the situation. Emergency services have also been deployed to ensure that the injured are attended to immediately.
Omeri further said that every step is being taken by the government to check the activities of insurgents in the country and advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and conscious of movement of unidentified people around their areas.
He expressed the sympathy of the Federal Government to the families of those that lost their lives just as he wished the injured speedy recovery.

ACP Frank Mba,Force Public Relations Officer,FPRO in a press statement Wednesday evening Nigerian security agencies have commenced investigation into the bomb blast incident which occurred about 4:00pm, today, 25th June, 2014, at Emab Shopping Complex along Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja. The security Forces have condoned off the scene of the blast, while the Police Bomb Disposal Squad has commenced post-blast analysis as part of the general investigative process. So far, 21 persons have been confirmed dead while the 17 injured persons are receiving treatment at the following hospitals: Maitama hospital, Gwarimpa hospital, Wuse hospital and Garki hospital and National hospital.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar has ordered increased security presence and surveillance in and around FCT Metropolis. Similarly, the security Forces are taking measured steps to strengthen all soft targets and critical infrastructure in a bid to improve overall public safety. The IGP calls on the members of the public to remain vigilant and to stay away from scenes of explosion so as not to fall victim in a likely case of secondary blast.
