The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army.

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army. His death marks the loss of a highly respected and courageous military leader known for his exceptional commitment to Nigeria.

In a statement, AANI’s National President, Ambassador Emmanuel Okafor, on behalf of the organization’s Executive Council and its members, paid tribute to General Lagbaja’s dedication and patriotism.

Describing him as a “symbol of courage, loyalty, and national unity,” Okafor highlighted Lagbaja’s selfless devotion to duty and his numerous contributions to the Nigerian Army.

According to Okafor, General Lagbaja was widely admired for his humility and approachability, qualities that earned him respect both within the military and beyond. “His leadership, strategic insight, and operational expertise played a key role in various military operations, where he exhibited remarkable resilience and courage,” he stated.

He extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagbaja’s family, friends, and colleagues, as well as to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation.

He expressed hope for the late General’s peaceful rest.
