The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has described governor Nyesom Wike’s comments on President Buhari’s refusal to sign the amended Electoral bill as a figment of his imagination; delusional thinking and lacking in basic understanding of governance.
The group in a statement by its Chairman and Secretary, Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Madueke noted that the comments by the PDP Governor exemplified a man who had just woken up from a deep sleep and began to chant whatever came to his mind without deliberate processing and filtering of his thoughts.
“We are offended by those remarks. If they were uttered by a street urchin or a mentally unstable person it would have been pardonable. The comments are not just lacking in understanding, they are untrue, false and irresponsible. They are the opposite of what President Buhari would do at the 2019 elections. We take serious exception to those comments, the group noted.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is a leader who is committed to a free and fair election. He has insisted and maintained that the 2019 elections must be prosecuted in a free and fair manner whether at his gain or his loss. Unlike his predecessors who diverted public funds from critical agencies and projects to prosecute their elections, President Buhari has insisted that no government Ministry, Department or Agency would bring money to fund his re-election bid.”
The group highlighted that Buhari’s commitment to free and fair elections has been evinced in previous elections that have been conducted during his administration where he has ensured that the electoral body played a neutral role indeed unlike during the PDP dispensation.
“President Buhari has ensured in the various elections from the gubernatorial, to the bye-elections, to the Local Government elections held under him, that a level playing ground was laid for all parties even at the cost of victory for opposition parties.”
The group noted that the President’s decision to withhold assent was borne out of the genuine desire to build stronger institutions and leave a lasting legacy that would go beyond his terms in office.
