Contrary to earlier reports that Governor Danbaba Suntai was dead, later reports indicate he is still alive .He is said to be in critical condition at a hospital in Yola.One report said he may be unconscious now.
Attempts to confirm the truth form Emma Bello the commissioner for information was abortive as his phone was unavailable after repeated calls.
The latest report that he is still alive has merely added to the confusion as some sources in Taraba insisted that he was dead.But our editor ,Ewache Ajefu has reported that the clearest indication that Dambaba Danfulani Suntai, Governor of Taraba State may have survived the aircrash in Yola, Adamawa state came from a statement issued on Thursday night by Mr. Joe Obi, special assistant on media to the aviation minister, and made available to Newsdiaryonline.com said that all the victims are alive with various degrees of injuries. The victims have been evacuated to the hospital for treatment, he added.
The statement titled “Incident Involving Aircraft, Cessna 208, 5N-BMJ in Yola, Taraba State, reads:
“An aircraft, Cessna 208 with 6 souls on board including crew, operated by the Taraba State Government departed Jalingo, Taraba State for Yola this evening and reported contact with the Yola Control Tower (1720Z) and field in sight at 38 miles estimating landing at 1730Z. The pilot subsequently lost contact with Yola Control Tower and subsequent effort to raise the aircraft failed.”
“Search & Rescue was immediately activated and site of incident located with all victims alive with various degrees of injuries. The victims have been evacuated to the hospital for treatment pending further investigation of the incident.”
Channels TV also quoted an official statement which said the governor was still alive.
A plane carrying Suntai and some of his aides crashed near Yola on Thursday.
