(LP’s Mimiko:Delared Winner)
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has won yesterday’s election defeating his presumed main challenger and ACN candidate Rotimi Akeredolu. The result declared today however showed that PDP’s Olusola Oke came second while Akeredolu took the third position.
Results declared today by Prof. Biyi Daramola of Federal University of Technology, Akure showed that Mimiko’s LP polled a total of 260,199 votes. To come second PDP’s Oke polled 155,961 votes while ACN’s Akeredolu scored 143,512 votes to take the third position.
This implies that Tinubu’s perceived attempt to extend his influence over Ondo state has hit a brickwall.Tinubu had openly issued a red card in the hope of sacking Mimiko.Today’s result however implies that ACN may be forced to go back to the drawing board to examine what went wrong and why its attempt to extend the party’s influence across the entire south west failed in Ondo.Other states in the south west :Lagos, Oyo,Osun ,Ogun and Ekiti have ACN governors.Edo too . But why did ACN fail this time around? That is the question begging for an answer now.
Equally, it means the families if late Gani Fawehinmi read the writing on the wall well when they endorsed Mimiko well ahead of the election. Also ,it is expected that CPC’s Pastor Tunde Bakare will be in a joyous mood now as the risk he took in reportedly endorsing Mimiko to the chagrin of some of his party members has paid off with this victory.Bakare was the CPC presidential running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari in the last general elections. And his decision to endorse LP’s Mimiko truly raised eyebrows ,portraying him as an unusual ‘politician’.
