The Ebonyi House of Assembly on Thursday, lifted the six months suspension slammed on Mrs Maria Ude-Nwachi (PDP-Afikpo North East) for alleged misconduct and engaging in photography.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ude-Nwachi was earlier suspended for two weeks on Jan. 28 for engaging in photography with commercial photographers during public functions.

The assembly found the action as demeaning of a lawmaker and later extended the suspension to six months on Feb.6.

The extension was part of the recommendations submitted by the committee which investigated the alleged misdeeds.

The Deputy Leader of the assembly, Chief Kingsley Ikoro moved a motion for her recall during plenary of Thursday, noting that Ude-Nwachi had shown considerable remorse for her actions.

“I plead that the House tampers justice with mercy as Ude-Nwachi had approached members individually and collectively to seek for forgiveness,” he said.

The motion was seconded by Mrs. Augusta Ude (PDP—Ohaozara East) who posited that the female legislator had turned a new leaf considering series of interactions with her.

Mr. Victor Chukwu (PDP–Ezza North West) also supported the motion, advocating that Ude-Nwachi should be counselled regularly to sustain the change in behaviour.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Chief Francis Nwifuru said that since the lawmaker had exhibited a high level of remorse, she deserved to be forgiven in the spirit of oneness.

The speaker, therefore, put the motion to lift the suspension into vote and it was unanimously adopted by all the members. (NAN)
