The Senate will on Wednesday consider a motion on the invasion of communities in Ikom and Boki Local Governments of Cross River State.
The matter was brought to the attention of upper legislative chamber by Senator John Enoh representing Cross River Central. The lawmaker speaking through Senate Standing order 43 (personal explanation) said more than 80 armed Cameroonians soldiers last month invaded border communities.
He added that invasion has further escalated the refugee crises in the area. “Mr President I want to bring to the notice of this Senate that on 18th January 2018, more than 80 armed soldiers from Cameroon invaded a border community in my constituency. This invasion has further escalated the refuges crises the area” Enoh said.
Responding to the explanation, the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said Senator Enoh has approached him before the commencement of the sitting on the matter. He then sought the leave of the Senators for Enoh to bring a proper motion on the matter in the next legislative day.
When put to voting, it was unanimously agreed by all the lawmakers present for Senator Enoh to bring a proper motion on the issue.
