FCTA to empower youths through sports

    The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to empower youths in Abuja through sports.

    Dilichukwu Onyedinma, Director of Sports, FCT, said this in an interview
    with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

    She restated the commitment of the administration to take the youths out of the streets through various sports engagements.

    Onyedinma said that a positive engagement of youths was key to greater and secure economic future of any nation.

    The director explained that the FCT Sports council had given many youths hopes of livelihood in fame especially in basketball and other sports.

    “Some of our youths that participated in the last National Sports festival who did well got scholarship.

    “Many of our youths have gained even international exposures in their different areas of sports specialisations,” Onyedinma said.

    She said that the council was working in synergy with various sport federations to give sports a pride of place

    According to her, “we have annual template for sports development aside football”.

    Onyedinma noted that with FCT’s scattered sports facilities, there was need for massive sponsorship and participation.

    The director urged corporate organisations to sponsor sports as part of their corporate social responsibilities. (NAN)
