Armed policemen have taken over the premises of Bida Local Government Secretariat since morning today .Newsdiaryonline.com learnt that the takeover of the secretariat came on the heels of the threat of impeachment facing the Chairman Bida Local Government , Mallam Mustapha M. Edota .
Sources in Bida,Niger state said the councilors have been at war with the chairman and they resolved to finally impeach him.They accuse the chairman of taking decisions all by himself without consulting them .”The councilors said the chairman has been relegating them to the background,that is why they decided to move against him”.But it appears the plot has been aborted today with the presence of armed policemen.
Newsdiaryonline.com learnt that there may be a deeper dimension to the local crisis because the councillors have alleged that the chairman has been “disregarding them because he believes the Etsu Nupe is supporting him”.
“ We also learnt it was the chairman who invited the police” said a source in Bida who added, ”as soon as the chairman discovered the plan of the councillors, he hurriedly invited the police.The policemen are still at the secretariat as at 2pm today. “
