National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Odigie Oyegun has disclosed that his party will live with the reality of the election of Bukola Saraki as Nigeria’s Senate President.
Oyegun made this known while addressing State House Correspondents at the Defence House in Abuja. He admitted that Saraki was “duly elected by his colleagues”.
He however noted that it was the right of those who said they would challenge the election in court to do so.
Oyegun however noted that the party would come out stronger in the end.
The election of Saraki as senate president as well as the emergence of Yakubu Dogara as Speaker House of Representatives contrary to the arrangement by the party angered some of the chieftains of APC.
President Muhammadu Buhari on his part said though he would prefer to see the party’s directive carried out, what happened with respect to the election of national assembly leaders was constitutional.
Dino Melaye Defends Saraki’s election
Meanwhile , a frontline campaigner for Saraki’s election, Senator Dino Melaye has said that a lot of misinformation was being dished out to the public on his candidate’s election. He said due process was followed.
Speaking on Channels Televisionnon Friday, Melaye said the night before the inauguration of the national assembly , the senators-elect then were invited to a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.Though some Senators honoured the invitation, the meeting did not hold.
He said therefore when some senators got an sms summoning a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the morning of the day of the inauguration of the national assembly, many of them did not believe it could be from the president.
