A Minna High Court has restrained the Niger state House of Assembly from making any move towards  impeaching the state Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.

Our Correspondent recalled that after the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Barrister Adamu Usman was impeached on Monday, he alerted that the governor may be the next target of impeachment from the lawmakers.

The interim injunction by the court was gotten by the Governor after  the peace meeting between the Governor and the principal officers of the House failed.

Justice Idris Evuti granted the three prayers as deposed to in an affidavit by the State Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Abdullahi Bawa Wuse.

The suit no NSHC/MN/54/2015 was instituted by the governor against the Speaker Isah Kawu, the Clerk, the assembly and two others .

This move by the Governor shows that the newly elected House  leadership led by  Kawu has been accepted and recognized by the governor.

The applicant in a motion ex parte application filed  by his counsel Rotimi Ojo prayed for an interim injunction restraining the defendants jointly and severally from setting in motion any process of impeachment of the applicant pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

He also prayed that the defendants be restrained from impeaching and accepting any nomination of any purported candidate for the position of acting governor of Niger State.

The court has fixed May 27, 2015 for hearing of the substantive case.

As at ‎the time of filing this report, the House of Assembly Complex in Minna was still under lock and key with heavy security presence . Nobody  was allowed into  the complex.
