Alhaji Abdullahi Anyachonkeya, the Administrative Secretary, University of Nigeria Nsukka Muslim Community (UNNMC) says Nigerians should emulate the good example of Prophet Ibrahim, to willingly sacrifice in order to move the country forward.
Anyachonkeya disclosed this in Nsukka on Friday in an interview with our correspondent while speaking on the significance of Eid el kabir celebration.
He said Prophet Ibrahim in carrying out the command of God in a vision wanted to sacrifice his only son Ishmail to Allah before Allah through an angel sent him a ram.
“It’s Ibrahim’s total proof of obedience, humility and faithfulness that made Allah to send him a ram to sacrifice instead of his son as well as bless him.
“Every Nigerian should learn how to sacrifice one thing or the other in order to move our country forward.
“Our leaders should show good example in this regard so that their followers will emulate their leadership examples,”he said.
According to the Secretary, slaughtering of ram during Eid el Kabir , was to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as act of obedience to Allah’s command.
He said that the celebration also required every Muslim to show love to his/her neighbours irrespective of tribe, language, religion or political affiliations because we are all created by one God.
“Muslims are expected to share the Sallah meat and food with their neighbours and friends irrespective of their tribe, language, religion or political affiliations.
“We must always remember that, we are created by one God and must show love to everybody as God shows love to us everyday.
“It’s impossible for anyone to claim he/she loves God when that person cannot love his/her neighbours.
“I wish happy Eid el Kabir in advance to all faithful, as Muslims all over the world celebrate this year’s Sallah,” Anyachonkeya said
