A fresh rift has emerged between President Goodluck Jonathan and the new National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.Newsdiaryonline .com has learnt that there is a big disagreement between them over the need for a cabinet reshuffle.
Highly placed sources told Newsdiaryonline.com that Tukur has been harping on the need for cabinet shakeup in order to inject fresh hands that will instill “some sense of purpose into the PDP led government”.Tukur is said to believe that the present crop of ministers may not be able to give the desired result .He is of the view that as part of the transformation process which the part is set to undergo, the machinery of government should be made more result -oriented with competent ministers. This result oriented approach is Tukur’s way of making the PDP more attractive to the electorate .
But President Goodluck Jonathan is said to have disagreed with Tukur. One source said even if Jonathan agrees with the need to inject more hands, he is not too keen about doing away with the entire set of ministers.”There is a big disagreement between the president and the party chairman over the need to shakeup the cabinet, there is no doubt about this” a source said.
In spite of the disagreement, there are hopes at the top hierarchy of the party and government circles that reason will prevail and the president will see the need to really reposition his government with new ministers soon.
Some time ago, there were media speculations about a looming cabinet shake up,but the presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati issued a statement insisting that the President had no plan to reshuffle his cabinet yet.
