The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties,CNPP has called on opposition politicians especially the All Progressive Congress,APC presidential aspirants to avoid acts of disunity over the venue of presidential primaries.
The statement by Osita Okechukwu spokesman of CNPP and APC member said “We were jolted when we read the letter signed by four presidential aspirants namely – Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rochas Okorocha and Sam Nda-Isiaih; showing clear signs of a scatter-broom-diagram.”
“Whereas protest is allowed in a democratic setting, however methinks the issue ofvenue is minor as delegates are not mobs, but articulate individuals that cannot be influenced only by venue.
“The truth of the matter is that gang-up against the front runner is antithetical to APC’s victory and the collective objective of halting the dangerous slide of Nigeria into a failed state
“Accordingly, this should be avoided by all means; as the greatest beneficiary of scatter-broom-diagram will be President Goodluck Jonathan, while Nigerians traumatised by corrupt and inept regime will be the greatest losers.
Okechukwu’s statement in full said “CNPP making passionate appeal to the presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC); to hearken to he collective yearnings of Nigerians for regime change to unite. For a united broom sweeps better than a scattered broom.
“We are making this passionate appeal not as a member of the APC ; but as one of those who have been in the vanguard for regime change aimed at guaranteeing more prosperous and secure Nigeria.
When We remember how some of us under the banner of Save Nigeria Group protested in Abuja Streets to rescue our democracy from the hands of cabals, who denied President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, then Vice President ascension to the presidency and how he failed to place public interest above self interest, one thinks the 2015 general elections provides a golden opportunity for positive regime change.
Hence to harvest positive regime change from the 2015 presidential election, our dear presidential aspirants as matter of urgent national importance must unite, eschew bitterness and remember the high hopes the APC raised among Nigerians when it was registered on 31st July 2013.
It is on this premise that we were jolted when we read the letter signed by four presidential aspirants namely – Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rochas Okorocha and Sam Nda-Isiaih; showing clear signs of a scatter-broom-diagram.
Whereas protest is allowed in a democratic setting, however methinks the issue ofvenue is minor as delegates are not mobs, but articulate individuals that cannot be influenced only by venue.
