Boko Haram: Adamawa Pledges To Assist Displaced Persons

Adamawa state government has assured the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were affected by Boko Haram insurgents of adequate assistance to cushion their sufferings.
Secretary to the State Government Professor Liman Tukur who led a high powered state government team to the Damare NYSC camp where the IDP’s where hosted said the government will do everything possible to ameliorate the sufferings of the IDP’s in line with its resolve to cater for everybody.
The team was told that about 1,056 IDP’s were in the camp while five pregnant women have safely delivered in the camp.
It was also disclosed that the IDP’s were mostly from Madagali, Michika, Mubi, Uba and Goza town in Adamawa and Borno states respectively.
During his speech, the SSG, said the displaced children in the camp would be accommodated in Federal Government Colleges pending the return of normalcy.
The SSG who addressed different groups in the camp, told them that relief materials procured by the state government will soon arrived the camp to improve their living condition.
He noted that those in the camp would have to adjust to the realities of living in their new environment knowing full well that there is no way they can get the same comfort comparable to their homes.
Also speaking, representative of Nigeria Inter- Religious Council (NIREC) also admonished the IDP’s to continue to pray fervently that God should intervene in the insurgency ravaged areas.
The chairman of the refugees, Alhaji Adamu Salisu expressed profound gratitude to the state government for its benevolence as he said the government have been up and doing especially in feeding them.
He said he and some his colleagues ran from Gwoza town of Borno state from the attacks of the outlawed Boko Haram insurgents which has been persistent in the area.
The SSG also commended the government of Taraba state for deeming it fit to send 11 buses and military escorts to ferry their indigenes who are mostly students of Tertiary institutions situated in the affected areas of the state.
The SSG was accompanied by Honourable Adamu Kamale, the chairman state house of Assembly Committee on Information, the commissioner of Works, Mallam Bashir Ahmed, Commissioner of Health, Chief Felix Tangwami and other party stakeholders.
