Al-makura:Group slams Nasarawa lawmakers’ call on CJ to dissolve panel

A group, the Nigeria Voters Assembly has described the call by the Nassarawa Legislators on the Chief judge to dissolve the panel set up to investigate the allegations listed against Governor Umaru Almakura as “ an intimidatory abuse of the principles of Separation of power which underscore the independent of the Judiciary.”
Mashood Erubami, President, Nigeria Voters Assembly said in a statement “the call if anything is self serving,and biased against the spirit of the 1999 constitution as amended. It needs to be made clear to the Legislators that they cannot be the Accusers, the prosecutors and the Judge in their own case, they must allow the CJ to freely act in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution so that the law would be allowed to rule.
“ It is nothing but open cowardice on the part of the members of the state Assembly to start exhibiting the signs of being hunted by their own political intrigues, by criticising the CJ action on the choice of the panel members as prejudiced. The Chief Judge having selected the seven member for the investigative Panel in accordance with his Conscience and the provisions of the 1999 constitution as amended, must be seen to be upholding the rule of law,remains steadfast, refuse to be harassed or intimidated and stand stoutly by his choice of members whom he considered to be of high integrity regardless of the preferences of the Assembly members.
“By the attitude of the Legislators it is very clear now that they do not cherish that justice and fair play should guide the impeachment processes and all that they prefer is to gag the process to conclusion so that the end of the evil script written by external Masterminds can be achieved. All these the CJ must stand against and fight to make the Judiciary the last bus stop for seeking Justice in the Land. It is now clearer that the PDP is not pretending that it is no more the democratic party that it pretends to be, as it is daily being antagonistic to the rule of all and all democratic norms being hell bent to substitute credible election with impeachment that is clearly targeted at depleting numbers of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Governors and using the outcome to create crisis and cause violence in the polity to avoid real election in 2015 so as to perpetuate itself in power.
The Nigeria Voters Assembly called “ on Well-meaning Nigerians particularly President Jonathan to caution the Nassarawa Legislators that the luck that Nigeria had with retired gen. Buhari who escaped his own “impeachment by bombing” might be carried too far in the case of current malicious political impeachment of Umaru Al Makura in Nassarawa.”
