The Ogun House of Assembly has cautioned officials of local governments to always adhere strictly to regulations and other extant rules in procurement process and other financial transactions.
Mr Musefiu Lamidi, the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, stated this on Monday while considering the audit reports of Ewekoro, Ifo and Ikenne councils from 2014 to 2019.
Lamidi, who presided over the session at the assembly complex, Abeokuta, tasked the councils’ officials to improve measures towards ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all financial records and transactions.
The legislator stated that the committee would not hesitate to hand over any officer found working against extant rules to the relevant authorities for prosecution.
He noted that it was against the ethics of the service for public servants not to respond to audit queries.
Lamidi added that the 9th Assembly would do everything to curb irregularities in all procurement stages, including poor record keeping, improper retirement of funds/payment vouchers, among others.
He also admonished the officials that appeared before the Committee to avoid further infractions in their daily official activities to prevent sanctions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the committee are, Messrs Abdul Oladunjoye, Ademuyiwa Adeyemi, Yusuf Amosun, Olusola Adams and Kunle Sobukanla. (NAN)
