Jigawa Advocates Roles for Traditional Rulers to Tackle Insecurity

Jigawa state Acting Governor, Alh. Ahmad Mahmud Gumel has advocated for constitutional role for traditional institutions in the country in resolving security issues as part of measures to curb security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Speaking on the occasion of this year’s sallah homage (Hawan Bariki) at the Government House Dutse by the Emir of Dutse and his entourage, Alh. Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi noted that “traditional institutions, being the public custodians, if given full backing and support, I believe they will play a greater role in assisting the government in restoring peace and normalcy in our country”

“As custodians of society, I have the belief that if our traditional institutions will be accorded with moral support, and constitutional backing, our Emirs, Chiefs, and Obas will contribute immensely in supplementing government efforts in resolving both communal among
other social disputes, since they are conversant in maintaining peace, and harmony amongst their subjects in their various domains”

He expressed delight on the contributions of traditional institutions in supporting government’s laudable programs and objectives at all times, assuring government determines to do more especially in completion of all undergoing viable projects for the betterment of all and sundry.
On the traditional Durbar (The Hawan Bariki) being observed annually, Ahmad assured the Emir of Dutse, Alh. Nuhu Mahmud Sanusi of the state government’s resolve in preserving traditional values inherited from our forefathers, adding “ I will like to assure you of our desire to uphold, preserved, and boost our cultural values to the international standard, worthy of emulation.

Responding, the Emir of Dutse, Alh. Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi thanked the Jigawa state government in fostering physical infrastructural developments in all the nooks and crannies of the state, assuring the co-operation of all the five Emirates for even development.
Also ,he commended the Jigawa state government for maintaining law and order, actions which placed the state on the status of the most peaceful state in the federation.He said all the five Emirs of Jigawa state give “Kudos” to Governor Lamido in achieving this noble task.

On his people, the Emir Alh. Sanusi enjoined them to be law abiding citizens, and rally round Governor Lamido for the provision of social amenities that will better their lots.He urged them to embrace farming since Jigawa is an agrarian state for massive food production .
The traditional Hawan Bariki is observed annually a day after every Sallah during which the Emir of Dutse pays Sallah homage on the state governor at the Government House Dutse.The emir always seizes the opportunity of presenting the plights of his people before the government for prompt actions.

During the occasion, both the Emir, the District Heads, and the King Makers will assemble in alphabetical order all on horse backs decorated in traditional colorful regalia as a mark of respect to the Governor, as well demonstrate the beauty of the people’s cultural
norms and values .It also attracts spectators, tourists, among others .
