Boxing Day: Lawmaker donates food items, cash to prison inmates, Leprosarium in Omu-Aran

Mr Raheem Olawuyi, a member of the House of Representative, has donated some food items to inmates of Omu-Aran Medium Security Prison to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olawuyi, who was recently sworn-in following his victory at the just concluded by-election under the platform of APC is representing Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.

Olawuyi, had while presenting the items through his Personal Assistant, Mr Lanre Abdulganeey, supported by some party members, said the gesture was to give the inmates a sense of belonging.

The Federal lawmaker said the donation was in line with his ways of impacting positively on the less-privilege in the society, especially during festive periods.

He charged the inmates to regard their present predicament as a temporary set-back and maintain absolute faith in God, saying; “there is still a brighter light at the end of the tunnel.

“You should not lose hope of getting over your present status but always be prayerful; definitely God is ever listening and will answer your prayers positively.

“God can turn any situation around; yours will not be an exception,” he said.

Olawuyij, who is also the APC candidate for the same position in the 2019 general elections, promised that his present and future representation would entrench good governance.

Mr Thank-God Tom and Malam Babangida Aliu, Pastor and Chief Imam among the inmates, in their respective remarks, thanked the donor for the gesture and foresight.

Mr Idris Adam, a Deputy Superintendent of Prison, in his own remark, also expressed the prison management’s appreciation over the gesture.

NAN reports that the team also visited and donated some food items and undisclosed amount of money to the inmates of the ECWA Leprosarium in Oke-Igbala, along Omu-Aran-Oke-onigbin highway.

Mr Julius Fabunmi, a community leader in Oke-Igbala, who received the gifts on behalf of the leprosarium inmates, described the donation as very timely and beneficial. (NAN)
