Dogara, Kaduna Former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari and Shaikh Dahiru Usman Bouchi were wednesday said to be the targets of twin bomb blasts that rocked kaduna metropolis as over 60 were confirmed death and scores of others sustained serous injury. Already,the state government has imposed a 24 –hour curfew on the metropolis. The first blast occured around 12: 45 am along Isa Kaita by Alkali Road Junction happened when the learned Islamic cleric Shaikh Dahiru Bauchi finished his annual closing Tafsir and was on his way home. An eye witness at the side said a teenage suicide bomber on motorbike who was waiting for the convoy of the scholar, noticing his restiveness and manouvring ,a security attache to the sheikh asked him to steer clear as he subsequently pushed the suspect. ” When the suspect was pushed the bomb exploded and the main victims were passengers in a J5 bus that was in the convoy of the scholar. It was only the driver of the bus that escaped but most of the people in the car lost their lives,” he said. It was gathered that the Shaikh was unhurt although his clothes and his vehicle were stained with blood. Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu who arrived at the scene at exactly 1: 15 pm confirmed that the rescue team at the scene so far picked 25 bodies and other injured victims. He added that presently some of the victims were receiving treatment at Garkuwa and 44 Army Reference hospitals in the state. While the rescue operation was still going on, the second blast occurred close to Kawo motor park. It was gathered that the 3 three Suicide bombers targeted the former Head of State convoy, General Muhammad Buhari who was on his way out of the state. His personal prado jeep and that of his security aides were completely damaged but the general was whisked away by his security personnel unhurt according to eye witnesses. However, the Commissioner of Police umar Shehu who later arrived at the scene in Kawo confirmed another 14 death while five were serious injured.But the red cross and other rescue team said the figure was above 60. Newsdiaryonline gathered that a suspect who was dressed in a female attire was arrested by military and when searched as several hand sets were found in his passion.
It took the intervention of security personnel at the scene to rescue him from angry mob as tear gas were fired to disperse the mob who were bent on attacking the suspect. Although the Police commissioner, Shehu refused to disclose the identity of the personality targeted at in Kawo blast he disclosed that the one at Alkali Road by Isa Kaita Junction was targeted at Shaikh Dahiru Bauchi’s convoy.
As the situation was about to get out of control, the state government imposed a 24 –hour curfew on Kaduna .
