The Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bar Ibrahim Gaidam has expressed concern over the non collection PVCs by the electorate.
He said more than 127,000 permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) are not collected by some indigenes of the state since their enrollment in 2015.
He revealed that Yola North is the LGA with the highest number of uncollected PVCs of 34,734, followed by Yola south with 13,840 Mubi North (10,236),Fufore (9225),Ganye (7961),Demsa (6875),Madagali (6727),and Shelleng with the least uncollected PVCs of 5183.
He debunked the rumours that the continuous voter registration exercise in the state will end in January saying the exercise which began on the 27th of April, 2017 and is still ongoing, and has registered a total number of 154, 791 new voters as at the 25th of January, 2018.He assured that the exercise will continue beyond January.
He warned politicians and political parties against premature campaigns for elective positions via indiscriminate placement of posters and billboards which according to him amounts to serious violation of election laws that restrict campaigns to within days to election.
Gaidam said, the practice speaks very little of politicians and their intentions and which might portray them in a negative light as desperate people who want to grab power at all cost.
Gaidam made the remarks Friday, during a stakeholders meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yola.
He advised politicians against hate speech.Gaidam decried the state of political apathy in the state saying despite INEC’s registering 68 Political parties in the country, there are only twelve political parties with recognisable offices in the state.
