Voting underway in Lagos by-election

Voting got underway in Ogunoloko Ward B Councillorship by-election in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Lagos State on Saturday at 9:00 am.

By-elections are holding in Ward ‘B’, Ogunoloko and Ward ‘B’, Dopemu in the Oshodi-Isolo and Agege local government areas of the state respectively to fill vacant seats.

This followed the death of the former occupants of the councillorship seats in the two council areas.

In Ogunloko, the exercise commenced at exactly 9a.m in PU 009 ( Owoseni Primary School), PU 010(Junction of Adefemi St./Arowojobe) PU 007 (Salawu Junction) PU 011 (Oremeji St.) and 006 (Junction of Olorunnisola/Alhaja Yemisi St.)

The accreditation and voting exercise is going on peacefully in the areas visited by its correspondents.

The polling officer at PU 007 Mr Kamar Ogunfowora said that the exercise started at exactly 9:am, but only three persons had come out to vote as at 9:14 am.

The APC Party Agent at PU 011, Mr Kazeem Fatoyinbo, who said that the exercise was going on smoothly, said that the LASIEC officers arrived on time.

Fatoyinbo, however, said that some people who desired to vote possessed Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) as against the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), hence they were turned back.

Also speaking, Chief Ibrahim Alli-Ipadeola and Mr Monsuru Adebayo, the PDP party agents in PU 011 and 006 respectively, expressed satisfaction about the exercise so far.

According to them, there are no challenges as officers of LASIEC had briefed the party agents on the need for peaceful conduct.

Meanwhile, Mr Yakubu Jimoh, the APC agent at PU 006 said that the turnout had not been impressive at 10:00 am., expressing hope that voters would come and vote.

The APC candidate, Mrs Khadijat Jimoh, who was accredited and voted at exactly 9:58 am told NAN the the electoral officers were doing their job well.

The candidate, who expressed hope of emerging the winner in the poll, commended the security agents and her supporters for standing by her.

Officers of Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (NSC) were on ground to provide security. (NAN)
