Tragedy As 15 Persons Drown In River Rima

A tragedy occurred on Thursday night last week when a Avensis Toyota model vehicle conveying 17 passengers plunged into River Rima in Goronyo local government of Sokoto state, drowning 15 of them as a result.

Newsdiaryonline gathered that the deceased passengers, said to have been heading back from Takakume to their home-village, Dan-Wawaru had attended a religious ceremony on the fateful day.

Sokoto State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Al-Mustapha Sani confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying that the incident happened because the driver fell asleep while driving.

He said that the dead persons had been buried by their respective families.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko paid condolence visit to the families of the deceased on Friday.
