Speaker of the House of Representative, Aminu Tambuwal has finally opened up on his reported presidential bid on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,APC
A report by Thisday said Tambuwal had picked the presidential nomination forms after consultation with other presidential aspirants on the platform of the APC .The report specifically said the speaker consulted with General Muhammadu Buhari before picking the form.
Confirming his presidential bid today, Tambuwal who spoke through his media aide Imam Imam said it was his friends that bought the forms for him.
Specifically, Imam confirmed through an sms that “earlier today,some friends and political associates of the Speaker notified him that they have bought the forms for him”.
Tambuwal’s president bid is the latest in his string of surprising moves.He recently announced his defection from Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP to the APC.Immediately after announcing that, he adjourned the House till December,leaving PDP in a quandary over how to handle his defection.
PDP immediately urged him to resign from his post as speaker and there was an apparently aborted move towards reconvening the House surrepticiouly.
Many had thought that the Speaker was actually heading for the gubernatorial race in Sokoto.In fact, one of Tambuwal’s associates told Newsdiaryonline he was certain Tambuwal would go for the governorship post instead of challenging Buhari for the presidential ticket . According to the source, Buhari’s entrance into the race made Tambuwal to focus on the guber race.
Why the Speaker finally decided to forge ahead with the presidential bid remains unclear yet.
