Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has cautioned politicians across the country to stop using innocent youths in political thuggery.
He sounded this note of caution in Sokoto on Monday when the newly-elected officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid him courtesy visit at his Palace.
According to Sultan Abubakar, “Those politicians that use children of others; give them money and drugs are doing the greatest injustice to themselves, the society and the country in general,” he said warning, “Such children often turn against the elected officials after the elections and make governance too difficult for their hitherto sponsors.”
While appealing to the politicians to accord top priority to sustainable peace and unity of the country, the Sultan also called on politicians, leaders and other Nigerians to prioritize peace, unity and socioeconomic prosperity of Nigeria.
He said: “All of us are yearning for free, fair and acceptable polls in 2015 and beyond; all of us as leaders should also give attention to the welfare, comfort and security of Nigerians,” he said.
Abubakar pledged to be free and accessible to all the political parties in the state. “Our doors are open to all of you and we will continue to pray fervently for sustainable democracy, peace and unity in Nigeria,” he added.
The state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma earlier said that the visit to aimed at seeking the Sultan’s fatherly prayer and royal advice.
Milgoma pledged that the members of the PDP will continue to be law abiding and patriotic.
