Security men cordon off Thisday office in Abuja
Powerful suicide bomb explosions rocked the Jabi, Abuja office of Thisday this morning .It was not immediately clear if lives were lost at the Abuja office of Thisday.But Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, chariman ,Editorial Board of Thisday reportedly said two of the company’s staff were killed and six others sustained serious injuries.
A policeman who claimed to have ‘been inside the premises soon after the explosion” said “there were casualties but not many.I saw the suicide bomber’s body shredded to pieces. It was horrible.”The suicide bomber was said to have force his way with a Jeep into the Thisday premises from “the back gate”
Amid concerns over the casualty figures,a louder speaker was used to announce to those waiting anxiously that all Thisday staff should proceed to the premises for a headcount .That shortly after Mallam Nasir El Rufai ,former minister of FCT and a member of Thisday Editorial Board arrived the scene.
Security men, policemen and fire service operatives were on hand to cordon off the Thisday building, even several journalists were prevented from accessing the building Kaduna .
All of a sudden reports emerged that there was another explosion at the office of Leadership Newspapers in Abuja.But this turned out to be untrue when Newsdiaryonline got to the premises of Leadership.A staff of the newspaper said it was just a bomb scare,just as security men including top ranking police officers converged at the headquarters of Leadership.
At that point it was also learnt that there were bomb blasts at the Kaduna office of Thisday also.The Kaduna blast hit The Sun and the Moment newspapers which share same premises .There were reports of casualties at the blast that hit media houses in Kaduna.The exact number of the dead was not immediately available
