#TrackNigeria: The Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had laid attacks on its supporters across the state.
According to a statement issued by the state chairman of the party, Isa Sadiq Achida, a copy of which is made available to Newsdiaryonline Thursday, the PDP thugs had killed an APC supporter, Sani Aliyu and another injured.
“Following the announcement of the rerun elections by the INEC, PDP thugs have attacked and killed Sani Aliyu, an APC supporter in Giyawa village of Goronyo local government, while another supporter in Sifawa of Bodinga local government is lying unconscious in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital as a result of physical assault by PDP supporters,” Achida alleged.
He further alleged that religious clerics had been attacked and theuir family members, maimed.
According to him, “We have been compelled by incessant, wanton and unprovoked attacks on our supporters across the state, to sound a word of caution to the perpetrators of these attacks and their sponsors that enough is enough.
“Our opponents in the PDP need to note that they do not have monopoly of the ability to perpetrate violence. We have chosen to seek redress for the injustices meted to our party during the recent rerun governorship elections through democratic and legal means.”
He warned that the party’s “desire for peace to reign in our state should not be misconstrued as sign of weakness.”
The party called on security agencies to bring those behind the attacks to book. “We call on security agencies in the state to take all necessary steps to bring these heinous attacks to a halt as well as arrest and prosecute the perpetrators to serve as deterrence.”
