The crisis rocking football’s world governing body ,FIFA got to a head Tuesday evening as Sepp Blatter the FIFA president announced his decision to step down.
His announcement was shocking to outsiders especially since he had been re-elected last week.
But despite his reelection, the bribery scandal rocking FIFA refused to go away.The latest twist was the revelation Monday that $10 million was paid by South Africa to FIFA officials.
Last week, seven officials of the body were arrested by the Swiss authorities in a lingering bribery investigation.
Many had thought Blatter would step down after that incident but he decide to hang in despite protests from UEFA and others about the dwindling credibility of FIFA over the bribery scandal.
With his decision to step down FIFA is set to hold an extra- ordinary session to ensure the emergence of of scandal free president.
