A day after the violence in Ibadan, South West Nigeria during a rally by opposition All Progressives Congress,APC, the Inspector General of Police,IGP Suleiman Abba has warned youths against cultism and thuggery.
The police confirmed that one Inspector was killed and five others were injured in the violence by thugs in Ibadan.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Acting Commissioner of Police Emmanuel EmmanueL C. S. Ojukwu ,“The IGP Suleiman Abba.. is worried about recent reports from some States of the Federation, on the involvement of youths in cult activities and ‘thuggery,’ which has left many of them wounded and dead.
He said further that “As a parent himself, the IGP is concerned about the wastage of young human lives in the unworthy exercise, and feels the hurts of parents whose children and wards are following the ways of destruction. He enjoined youths to appropriate the many opportunities of development in the nation, obey the laws of the land, face their academics and vocations, and prepare adequately to lead the nation in the years ahead.
“While advising youths to embrace good virtues, the IGP warned that the full weight of the law would be applied on recalcitrant, wayward and delinquent youths”,Ojukwu said.
