Gombe State Commissioner of Police (CP), Hayatu Usman, has reiterated security agencies’ commitment to maintaining law and order amid recent violence arising from the nationwide protest in the state.
Usman made this known in Gombe while briefing newsmen after an emergency expanded security meeting presided over by Gov. Inuwa Yahaya on Monday.
According to him, security agencies are not against any protest that follows the rules but warned that the police will not allow any action capable of jeopardising the peace of the state.
He said security agencies would always ensure the safety of lives and property, thus urging the residents to refrain from any action that could lead to violence.
The CP said arrests had been made in connection with the looting of both public and private property during the violent protest, disclosing that many valuable items had been recovered.
He urged those who lost property to report to the police to verify if their items were among those recovered for immediate handover.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Abubakar Njodi, said the state government was concerned about the citizens’ welfare and would address it promptly.
He announced government plans to roll out another round of food palliatives to support vulnerable households across the state.
The SSG commended the security agencies for tackling the situation and preventing an escalation that could have led to a complete breakdown of law and order. (NAN)
