Professional Validation Of Academic Programs Imperative – FUTA VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Adebiyi Daramola, has described regular professional validation for academic programs in Universities as critical for maintaining standard and keeping in touch with developments in relevant fields. Professor Daramola said this while receiving a team from the Town Planning Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC), Abuja, which came for the statutory professional re-accreditation of the University’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He noted that in order for Nigerian Universities to create the needed synergy between content and the needs of the society professional validation of programs have become imperative. He said FUTA takes such validation as critical since one of its core mission is the production of
high level self reliant manpower who are trained to contribute meaningfully to solving societal problems and challenges
The leader of the delegation Town Planner Raphael Ikumapayi gave credit to the University for the high level manpower in the department of Urban and Regional Planning, He said with six members of staff in the professorial cadre, the department has the best manpower among tertiary institutions offering the specialized course in Nigeria. He said his team which also included Town Planners ABC Obi, D.K Aderinola, J.N Ibikunle and Samuel Abayomi was in FUTA to appraise the level of sustenance of the Department’s previous achievements for the furtherance of academic exercise. Town Planner Ikumapayi said there was no doubt about the fact that FUTA is one of the nation’s best Universities describing graduates of FUTA as cynosure of pride in the industry who continue to post outstanding performances.

Ikumapayi also commended the University’s concern for staff and students’ welfare with respect to the refurbishing and restructuring of the School of Environmental Technology building. He further congratulated the University Management on the maintenance of aesthetic values which he noted had carved a niche for FUTA.
