Primaries: Buhari scores 505,827 votes in Edo, 248,268 in Anambra

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored a total of 505,827 votes in Edo during the direct presidential primary conducted across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki, who is the returning officer declared the direct primaries result on Saturday in Benin at the party’ s secretariat.

Obaseki, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu said that a copy of the result would be sent to  Abuja for final collation.

He thanked the people of the state for coming out en masse to vote  for Buhari, saying that the election was violence  free.

He urged party members to ensure they cast their votes for President Buhari during the  2019 general elections.

The governor said that the high number of  votes shows  that Edo is an APC state.

In Anambra, Buhari polled 248,268 votes across the 326 wards in Anambra.

Declaring the result on Saturday in Awka, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ikemefuna Uzochukwu,said the total number of invalid votes at the poll was 100.

“After collation from all the 21 Local Government Areas in the state, the total number of accredited voters was 248,468.

“The total number of votes cast for one candidate, Muhammadu Buhari was 248,368 votes while the total number of valid votes cast for Muhammadu Buhari was 248,268.

“This is to certify that Muhammadu Buhari haven scored the highest number of votes cast is hereby declared winner in the state,” he said.

Speaking, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, commended the party supporters for throwing their support behind the president. (NAN)
