An 18-year-old Point of Sale Operator (POS), Victoria Adegbola, was on Tuesday docked in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT for allegedly stealing her employer’s N420,000.
The police charged Adegbola, who resides in Giri village, Gwagwalada, FCT with two counts of criminal breach of trust and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Yakubu Jamiu of Giri village, Gwagwalada, FCT reported the matter at the police station on Feb. 11.
Tanko said that the complainant employed the defendant as a sales representative in his POS stand and on Feb. 10 he entrusted N870,000 to her.
He said that the money was meant to be used by the defendant to do business, adding that on his return from school he discovered that N420,000 was missing from the money.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 314 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Defence Counsel, P.A Onuh in his oral bail application prayed the court to grant his client bail in the must liberal terms.
Onuh cited section 158, 161 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to buttress his claims for bail.
The Judge, Malam Sani Umar admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N900,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum which must reside within the FCT.
Umar ordered that the surety must provide his address which would be verified by the staff of the court, present a valid means of identification and two recent passport photograph.
He said that the surety must be ready to forfeit the bail bond if the defendant jumps bail.
Umar said that if the defendant fails to meet the bail conditions, she should be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service(NCoS) Nigeria Correctional Centre in Suleja.
He adjourned the case until March 29 for hearing. (NAN)
