The Police Command in Jigawa said it had arrested 17 suspects for committing various offences in different parts of the state.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Bala Senchi, stated this during a news briefing on Tuesday in Dutse.
Senchi said one the suspects, Mamman Rabi’u, was arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Lamura Rabiu, at Habatsa village in Gagarawa Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the suspect allegedly hit Lamura severally with stick on her head in in 2016.
“On July 20, a complaint was received by the Police in Gagarawa Local Government Area that two years ago, Mamman Rabi’u of Habatsa village informed the parents of his wife that their 22-year-old daughter was missing.
“And that the parents did not inform the police. And fortunately on same date, the deceased’s elder brother sighted the cloth of his sister in a shallow grave and reported to the police.
“In this regard, the police arrested the suspect and in the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to have killed the victim with a stick by hitting her on the head severally,” he said
The commissioner added two of the suspects were arrested on July 15, in Kazaure Local Government Area over criminal conspiracy, impersonation and forgery.
According to him, the suspects, Sunusi Muhammad and Salim Jibril, were arrested for conniving and collecting the sum of N297,000 from three unsuspecting residents for employment through the Chief Protocol to the President, Alhaji Lawan Abdu Kazaure.
Senchi said the suspects forged and issued appointment letters from Department of Security Services (DSS), Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC) and Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
He said the fake appointment letters, a computer set and assorted SIM cards were recovered from the suspects.
He said three of the suspects, Yunusa Nasiru, Musa Umar and Uzairu Ahmed, were arrested in Hadejia town over shop breaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
Senchi further said another suspected armed robber was arrested after a distress call was received by the police in Garki Local Government Area on July 12.
He also said that a gang of armed robbers stormed Maho village and robbed people of their belongings.
“The police swiftly arrived at the scene and got one of the suspects.
“In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to have collected the sum of N80,000 from people in the area and shared with the remaining suspects on the run,” he said.
Sanchi added that a search was conducted in the suspect’s house where one police belt, three empty packets of cell phones and twenty packets of cell phones were recovered.
“Also, on July 14, a complaint was received from a fish seller by the police in Birninkudu Local Government Area that on the same date, two persons bought a fish from him and gave him a suspected counterfeit of N1,000 note.
“On the receipt of the complaint, the police commenced investigation. In the process, two suspects were arrested.
“When search was conducted on the suspects, additional nine pieces of the one thousand Naira fake notes were recovered,” he said.
The commissioner further stated that, the police, based on tip-off, conducted a raid at abattoir and Ciroma line criminal hideouts in Dutse town.
“Fortunately enough, seven suspects were arrested with 18 assorted cell phones suspected to have been stolen from various places across the state,” he said.
According to him, another suspect was arrested by the police in Taura Local Government Area for stealing a car.
“On July 18, a report of theft of Honda Civic with registration number AA 747 TAR was received by the police in Taura Local Government Area.
“In this regard, all patrol teams around the area were notified on the theft. One of the patrol teams intercepted the vehicle.
“The suspected car thief gave the name of another suspect as the receiver of his stolen vehicles. To this end, the police went to Kano and arrested the receiver.
“The receiver of the stolen vehicles is a member of the notorious gang disturbing the state and the car was recovered as an exhibit,” the commissioner said.
According to him, all the cases are under investigation and the suspects would soon be charged to court.
He called on people of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement around them as the command was ever-ready to protect their lives and property. (NAN)
