The Police on Wednesday, arraigned a property agent, Eze John, at the Life Camp Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding his client of N1 million.
John of Ati close, Wuse Zone 4, FCT Abuja, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that one Christopher Patrick of NNPC Towers, Abuja reported the matter at Wuse Zone 3 Police Station, on Oct. 26.
Ejike alleged that sometimes in April, the defendant deceived the complainant by presenting himself as a genuine property agent.
He alleged that the complainant trusted the defendant and gave him N1 million to secure a two-bedroom apartment for him at Wuse zone 4, Abuja.
The prosecutor said that after several months, the defendant failed to provide the accommodation and converted the money to his personal use.
He told the court that all effort made by the complainant to get a refund of the money from the defendant proved abortive.
He said the offences contravenes the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Celestine Odo, admitted the defendant to a N1 million bail and one surety in like sum.
Odo ordered that the surety must be reliable and with a fixed address.
He also ordered that the surety must deposit a recent passport photograph and a valid means of identification, which must be verified by the court registrar as part of bail conditions.
He adjourned the matter until Feb. 23, 2021, for hearing. (NAN)
