Para-Soccer Open Championship: Yobe beat Lagos 1-0

Yobe state’s para-soccer team on Saturday in Abuja beat their Lagos counterparts 1-0 in the fifth match of the ongoing First National Para-Soccer Open Championship.

The maiden edition of the National Para-Soccer Open Championship which started on Friday is expected to end on Sunday .

In the match played at the Package B of the National Stadium, Yobe were totally in control of the game.

Mohammed Bana of Yobe scored the only goal of the game in the 46th minute.

Speaking after the match, the head coach of Yobe, Mohammed Bashiru, said he was happy that his team won.

“I was expecting them to play better than this and to score more goals, because my players are stronger than their opponents. Today’s victory is due to discipline. This is our second game. We lost our first game in the opening match against Kastina 1-2 on Friday. But we are here to win this Championship,” he said.

The coach of Lagos, Femi Afolabi, on his part said he appreciates his team in spite of the loss.

“My players fought well. It was unfortunate they could not utilise their scoring chances. Both teams played a good game.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and work more. I need to teach them what to do when they have the ball and what to do when the ball is with their opponents. However, we will do better in our next game to ensure a win,” he said.

In the first match of the day at the competition, Kano team thrashed Borno 6-0.

In the second game, Katsina walked over FCT to receive two points without breaking any sweat.

In the third game, Kano defeated Bayelsa 2-1, while in the fourth game Kwara thrashed Borno 5-1, and in the sixth game Bayelsa beat Borno 3-2.

Meanwhile, in the last match of the day Kaduna also thrashed Kwara 6-0.

Eight teams are taking part in this maiden edition of the National Para-Soccer Open Championship.

The participating teams are from Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Kwara, Borno, Bayelsa, FCT and Lagos. (NAN)
