Osun workers’ salaries: Omisore hails Oyo,Rivers govts

The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party,Senator Iyiola Omisore has commended the governors of Oyo,Ogun and Rivers state for coming to the aid of the Osun state government for the payment of July salary.
In a statement issued on Friday,senator Omisore said friendly state governors had rescued Osun workers from years of mismanagement by what he described as the ‘outgoing Governor Aregbesola ‘ that has led to late and nonpayment of the workers salary as at when due.
“We are aware the state government account is in the red due to huge debt servicing, unsustainable debt profile and capital flight in service of cronies. I commend the governors of Oyo ,Rivers and Ogun state for being their brothers’ keeper by extending millions of naira to the Osun state government to pay salaries of workers.
” We appreciate the gesture which for the first time enabled the outgoing governor of Osun state to pay July salary before the end of the month. This is the first time the Aregbesola government pay salaries of workers earlier than two to three months late”, the candidate said.
” We note the embarrassment this unorthodoxy way of running state finance is putting our state . Even key officials of the administration are facing charges over unexplained movement of cash as was the ongoing case of the state commissioner for Finance.Governance by borrowing is definitely unacceptable to the generality of our people”, the statement noted .
Wondering how long the state would survive on handouts from friendly states,Senator Omisore affirmed that a government that rely on donations to pay salaries can no longer be entrusted with power as it has lost all legitimacy and should be voted out of power by the voters.
” Even while we appreciate assistance of friendly governors to the embattled governor of Osun state ,it is clear the time is up for him as failure to judiciously manage state treasury is even a sufficient ground to voluntarily resign from office. If the governor will not resign ,the vote of the people will send him packing come August 9.
” I emphatise with workers in osun state over the mismanagement of the entire public service . Our pledge to them is that their welfare will be on the critical list of our priorities. Never will Osun state depends on handouts today her workers . This shame on our state shall end “, the statement concluded.
